Upholster a Club Chair

size in inches:
approximately 30.00in x 30.00in

Product Description

This is a typical Skirted LP Club Chair Large Overstuffed Arm chairs were common in British Gentlemen's clubs of the 17th through the mid 20th centuries, but the name, "club chair" is not from that source. The "club" refers to the shape of the panel on the front of the arm. Upholstery Manufacturors in the 20th century began to make "attached pillow" versions of what were previously loose pillow styles of chairs and sofas.  This method allowed for a more favorable division of labor by substituting technical proficiency at the bench, with less expensive (read- "female") labor in pre-assembly (sewing and stuffing) It also allowed for shorter yardages since the cost of making a pattern with many little pieces was spread out over the hundreds of units finished each day. It is NOT equally cost effective to make Attached Pillow for the Custom Upholsterer doing one at a time.  Neither is it as beneficial for the end user, who cannot use the other side of an attached "pillow".  This history also explains some of the short yardages given on those familiar yardage charts suggesting yardages for PLAIN fabric on a variety of frames.  On typical High Volume manufactured furniture, the cover generally stops whereever it disappears from the eye.  "Stretchers" are then sewn to the cover which reach the rest of the way to the frame for tacking. Labor in most custom upholstery shops is not divided as it is in most factories.  It is ALSO common for the fabric to be brought to the shop by the customer. (known as C. O. M. or Customer's Own Material)  Using the short yardages on common yardage charts shorts the custom upholsterer twice; We typically no longer sell the fabric; and we would need to do all of that extra sewing to make up for the short yardage (as well as supply the fabric for the stretchers! (adding insult to injury)) You can usually get an LP Club Chair like this out of 71/2 to 8 yards of fabric The base price here it to strip and recover an LP club chair without a skirt Example priced is just to remove old cover and re-cover a sound, clean stable skirtless club chair frame with mostly reusable stuffing.
